What we are not
- we are not a typical function band. If you are looking for a regular loud function band who will play Disco Inferno seguing into The Birdy Song and slipping almost unnoticeably into I Will Survive then we are not the right band for you. We have all done lots of that sort of work and can recommend some great function bands. What we are
- we play a very broad range of music mostly drawn from the American Songbook. The definition of the word "jazz" is debated incessantly. For us we can go with one of Jamie Cullum's definitions - it's music we enjoy playing. Jazz at the start was about dancing ( and drinking, and dating ) and that is really the sort of jazz that we love. We are then fundamentally a dance band. Like most musicians we enjoy the music most when the audience are having a good time.
Our music suits weddings, dinner dances and any occasion where the age range is broad. We wil get the 70 year olds not just tapping but dancing to the classics from the 20s, 30s and 40s including It Had To Be You, Fly Me To The Moon and Lady Is A Tramp. Those who are a little younger can show off their Strictly moves to our salsa numbers including Girl From Ipanema and Sway. If it looks like time for a smooch then we bring out the ballads. To fill the floor again it might be time to move to some rock and roll - Johnny B Goode, Great Balls of Fire and Chantilly Lace go down well. But we also love some of the big band instrumental numbers particulalry from the Ellington era, Moondance is a great song so we do that, Take Me To The River is a great soul classic and Valerie ( Zutons then covered by Amy Winehouse ) is a super fun number. We hope that gives you an idea. ( Oh and with notice we can take requests )
To deliver this range of music we need a pumping rhythm section, great brass players and a superb vocalist. Our regular line up is piano, bass, drums, guitar, saxophone, trombone, cornet and vocals. We manage to do this as a six piece band since the majority of the Goats play more than one instrument
We enjoy playing big and small venues, we have played for private parties, charity gigs, weddings, indoors and outdoors. We have not yet but could also play for divorce parties, funerals and Bar Mitzvahs. If you are seeking a flexible jazz/dance band with a boogie twist that love to play, you are in
the right place.
We recorded a CD a few years ago which is still going strong but on the “listen to us
” page we have added a few clips of us playing live from 2014. The recording is not as perfectly polished as a studio CD but we hope it gives you an idea of the different styles we enjoy.
We are a sextet but have played as a quintet, quartet and trio. We know that we are very very competitive on price so we hope you will book the full band.
If you would like to come and listen to us then e-mail us and we will arrange it.
Our patch is North West London / Hertfordshire / Home Counties. We will cheerfully travel anywhere in the UK or further.
